This homemade Strawberry Chia Jam is a healthy, natural spread made from fresh strawberries, sweetened with honey or maple syrup, and thickened with nutrient-rich chia seeds. It’s simple to make, requiring minimal ingredients, and provides a deliciously chunky texture perfect for toast, yogurt, or desserts. This recipe is a great alternative to store-bought jams, free from preservatives and refined sugars.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 500 g (about 3 cups) strawberries, washed and hulled
  • 2-3 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds

Instructions

  1. Cook the Strawberries: Add the strawberries to a pan with a splash of water. Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring occasionally, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5-10 minutes until the strawberries are soft and juicy.
  2. Add Sweetener: Remove the pan from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup. Taste the jam and add more sweetener if needed, depending on the sweetness of your strawberries.
  3. Incorporate Chia Seeds and Mash: Stir in the chia seeds, then mash the strawberries with a fork to achieve a chunky consistency.
  4. Cool and Thicken: Allow the jam to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes. During this time, the chia seeds will absorb liquid and the jam will thicken.
  5. Store the Jam: Transfer the cooled jam into an airtight container and refrigerate. The jam keeps fresh for up to one week in the fridge.

Notes

  • You can adjust the sweetness according to your preference by adding more honey or maple syrup.
  • For a smoother jam, mash or blend the mixture more thoroughly before adding chia seeds.
  • Chia seeds help thicken the jam naturally without needing pectin or added sugar.
  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor.
  • This jam can be used as a spread, topping for yogurt or oatmeal, or a mix-in for desserts.
