Ingredients

Red Velvet Latte with Coffee

  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp beet juice
  • 1/4 cup / 60 ml freshly brewed coffee (or 2 shots espresso)
  • 1 cup / 240 ml milk

Red Velvet Latte without Coffee

  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp granulated sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp beet juice
  • 1 1/4 cups / 300 ml milk

Garnish

  • Whipped heavy cream (optional)
  • Sprinkles or chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brew Coffee: Prepare your coffee or espresso using your preferred method. A medium grind with filtered water in a coffee maker works well. Skip this step if making the latte without coffee.
  2. Warm Milk: Heat the milk either in a tall glass in the microwave or in a saucepan on the stovetop until hot but not boiling.
  3. Whip Cream: Using a handheld milk frother, whip together the heavy cream, 1/2 tablespoon sugar, and 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract until it thickens slightly but does not form peaks. This takes just a few seconds. Alternatively, use whipped cream from a spray can.
  4. Assemble Drink: In a large mug or tall glass, mix the cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and beet juice thoroughly until the cocoa dissolves completely. For the coffee version, stir in the brewed coffee next; then pour in the warm milk and stir briefly to combine all the liquids.
  5. Garnish: Top your drink with the whipped cream and decorate with heart-shaped sprinkles or chocolate shavings for a festive finish. Serve immediately and enjoy your red velvet latte!

Notes

  • Adjust sugar quantity to your taste or omit for a less sweet latte.
  • Beet juice adds natural color and a subtle earthiness typical of red velvet flavor.
  • Use fresh brewed coffee or espresso for the best flavor.
  • The latte can be made vegan by substituting milk with plant-based alternatives and using non-dairy whipped cream.
  • Microwaving milk requires monitoring to avoid overheating and burning.
