Ingredients
Bread and Cheese
16-20 ounces French Baguette, sliced ½” thick diagonally
4 ounces Gruyère Cheese, sliced or shredded
1 teaspoon Garlic Salt
6 tablespoons Butter, divided
Mushroom Topping
8 ounces Cremini (Baby Bella) Mushrooms, sliced
1 tablespoon Soy Sauce
1 tablespoon Red Cooking Wine
½ teaspoon Thyme
Instructions
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400℉ to prepare for toasting the crostini slices.
Prepare Bread Slices: Slice the French baguette into ½” thick diagonal pieces and arrange them flat on a baking sheet.
Butter and Cheese Topping: Melt 3 tablespoons of butter and stir in the garlic salt. Brush this garlic butter mixture evenly over each bread slice. Then, place sliced or shredded Gruyère cheese on top of each piece of bread.
Bake Crostini: Bake the prepared bread slices in the oven for 4-5 minutes or until the cheese has melted and the bread is toasted.
Sauté Mushrooms: While the crostini bakes, melt the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 5-7 minutes until they become tender.
Add Flavorings: Pour in the red cooking wine, soy sauce, and sprinkle in the thyme. Stir well to coat the mushrooms and continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes to let the flavors meld.
Assemble Crostini: Spoon the sautéed mushrooms over the melted Gruyère on each toasted bread slice, and serve immediately for a warm, savory appetizer.
Notes
Use fresh mushrooms for the best flavor and texture.
Red cooking wine can be substituted with dry white wine if preferred.
For a vegetarian version, ensure the soy sauce and other ingredients are free from animal products.
Serve immediately after assembling to enjoy the melted cheese and warm mushrooms at their best.
