Kilted Sausage Bites are a delicious and fun appetizer featuring smoked kielbasa wrapped in crescent roll dough with two savory cheese variations. Topped with a buttery, tangy glaze and poppy seeds, these bite-sized treats bake to golden perfection, making them perfect for parties, game days, or casual snacking.

Ingredients

Dough and Filling

  • 2 8 oz crescent roll dough sheets
  • 2 12 oz kielbasa or smoked sausages
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 2 teaspoons poppy seeds

Glaze

  • ⅓ cup butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a large baking sheet to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Dough: Unroll one tube of crescent dough and pinch the seams together carefully to form a single large sheet, creating a solid base for rolling.
  3. Assemble Rolls with Shredded Cheese: Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheese across the surface of the first dough sheet. Lay the kielbasa sausage along one long edge. If the sausage bends, cut it in half for easier handling. Roll the dough tightly around the sausage and pinch the seam firmly to seal it.
  4. Assemble Rolls with Cream Cheese: For the second dough sheet, spread cream cheese evenly over half the dough. Place the other sausage along the long edge of the dough and roll tightly, securing the seam to keep the filling inside.
  5. Slice and Arrange: Using a sharp knife, slice each rolled dough into approximately ¾-inch thick rounds. Place the slices cut-side down on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly.
  6. Prepare Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth. Brush this glaze generously over the tops of each bite, then sprinkle poppy seeds evenly over them.
  7. Bake: Bake the arranged rolls in the preheated oven for 15–18 minutes until the crescent dough is golden brown and crispy.
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve warm with your favorite condiments such as ketchup or mustard for dipping. Enjoy your flavorful Kilted Sausage Bites!

Notes

  • Cut the kielbasa into smaller sections if necessary to fit the dough for easier rolling.
  • You can interchange the shredded cheese and cream cheese portions depending on your taste preference.
  • Use a sharp knife for clean slices that hold their shape well while baking.
  • These sausage bites are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven while warm and crispy.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
