Ingredients

For the Pasta:

  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • 1 teaspoon salt

For the Shrimp:

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

For the Bang Bang Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 2–3 tablespoons sriracha
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional)

For Garnish:

  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook until al dente, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain the pasta, reserving 1/2 cup of the pasta water, and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper. Dredge the shrimp evenly in cornstarch. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry the shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until golden and crispy. Transfer cooked shrimp to paper towels to drain excess oil.
  3. Make the Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and honey (if using). Adjust the amount of sriracha to your desired heat level.
  4. Combine: Add the cooked pasta to the skillet. Pour the bang bang sauce over the pasta and toss to coat thoroughly. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until you reach your preferred consistency. Gently fold in most of the shrimp, reserving some for topping.
  5. Serve: Plate the sauced pasta and top with the remaining shrimp. Garnish with sliced green onions and red pepper flakes for an extra spicy kick. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free spaghetti and cornstarch is naturally gluten-free but ensure your brand is certified.
  • Adjust the spiciness by varying the amount of sriracha and red pepper flakes used.
  • Use fresh shrimp if possible, but thawed frozen shrimp works well too.
  • The honey in the sauce is optional and can be omitted for less sweetness.
  • Reserve some pasta water to help thin the sauce if it becomes too thick when tossing.
